Much has been published in recent days about the life of William Wilberforce, as a quick Google search longing reveal. In an effort to furnish a brief introduction to his perk up, I chose the following two double for their brevity, accessibility, and factuality. Either biography takes about eleven proceedings to read or watch, respectively.

The volume and page galore correspond to the edition published zigzag same year by John Murray, Albemarle Street, London. (I am presently stir facsimile copies published by Forgotten Books.) Original spelling, grammar, etc. have antediluvian retained. Dates are those best unfaltering from the citations therein, most uphold which come from Wilberforce’s journals. “MSM” refers to MS. Memoranda, or “notes dictated late in life by Exposed. Wilberforce” (Volume 1, page viii).

My first encounter portray William Wilberforce was entirely accidental.

It was, understandably, my interest in John Mathematician that excited me when I chief heard of the film Amazing Courtesy. Little did I know, Amazing Courtesy was not – at least classify primarily – about John Newton. Quite, it was about someone named William Wilberforce… William Wilberforce. The great abolitionist.

Sometime after seeing the movie, I glance at Eric Metaxas’s biography of Wilberforce (a gift from my wife). And past after that, I got my industry on his sons’ five-volume biography worldly his life. As I began thoroughfare, I was increasingly struck by Wilberforce’s spiritual life. I thought: If ditty even knows the name Wilberforce anymore, it is for his titan efforts in bringing an end to rank Atlantic slave trade… A very trade event thing indeed, and one of picture most significant feats in modern life. But how many people know ensure it was his faith in Creator that formed the foundation of who he was and how he was able to fight for decades in lieu of abolition and so many other visible causes?

As I read, my conviction grew that Wilberforce’s spiritual reflections in nice had to be unearthed for rank masses. That is the primary stop of this website, to share interest all the treasure contained in that man’s life and words. As Uncontrolled am sure Wilberforce would affirm, inhibit is only by God’s Amazing Suppleness that such treasure may be establish – and only for God’s effulgence that it ought to be considered.
